Then I use 1-4 for various special teams, like siege or defensive teams I use my mouse buttons for the main geographical groups: I constantly unbind and remind control groups, based on where they are on the map.

If you're in some all out spam war, or you want to do a full on fallback to your base, having something that can muster all your troops that you've forgotten is great. One of my biggest unlocks was binding mouse 5 to select all idle military. The reason I don’t just put the select all on the mouse is because it gives me flexibility to shift select other types of buildings to include in the control group IE Clocktower + siege buildings with mouse5. I converted a friend who wasn’t using it and he now agrees it’s way better.Īn example of why I use control groups for buildings on mouse AND keyboard numbers for buildings are because when I spam like 10 stables, I hit my 3 key to select all stables then CTRL+mouse6 to assign. Once I setup the mouse and got used to it I have no idea how people continue to do everything on the keyboard, this to me feels right. Usually my 2, 3, 5, 6 on mouse are military buildings with 4 and 7 (lower buttons) being units. Assigning control groups feels so much better CTRL+mouse key than stretching for CTRL+keyboard. I use my mouse buttons for building AND unit selection. Everything else on keyboard left hand is grid. Then 1-9 on keyboard are select all building styles starting with barracks, the AR, etc. My thumbs are now my early game cycle back and forth between TC and scout.
